The Power of Coach Reviews

Why Verified Feedback Changes Everything

Coaches trust coaches. When legitimate coaches vouch for an athlete, it's not marketing fluff—it's credibility. Learn why coach reviews are the most underrated tool in recruiting.

Why Verified Coach Reviews Matter

Social Proof That Works

College coaches know other coaches. When a coach from an elite program or respected club vouches for you, it signals legitimacy. You can't fake that.

Proof of Coachability

What matters most to coaches? Not just talent—coachability. Reviews that say "works hard," "listens," "team player" are exactly what scouts look for.

Sets You Apart

Most athletes have film. Most have stats. Few have verified feedback from multiple coaches. It's a differentiator that moves you to the top of the stack.

Builds Your Network

Each review comes with a coach's credibility attached. Coaches see that network and think, "Other good coaches vouched for this athlete. Worth a closer look."

The Math Behind Coach Reviews

WITHOUT COACH REVIEWS:

  • You: 1x source (just your profile)
  • Coach thinking: "Is this real?"
  • Risk tolerance: Low (coaches unsure)
  • Reach: Limited (only coaches actively searching)

WITH 3-5 COACH REVIEWS:

  • You: 4-6x sources (multigenerational validation)
  • Coach thinking: "Other good coaches vouched. This athlete is legit."
  • Risk tolerance: Higher (coaches more confident)
  • Reach: Wide (stands out in coaching searches)

Result: Athletes with 3-5 reviews report 2x-3x more meaningful coach interest than those without.

How to Request Coach Reviews

Step 1: Identify Coaches to Ask

Who has seen you play and can speak to your character and ability? Club coaches, HS coaches, elite camp directors, skills trainers, or recruiting coaches.

Step 2: Build Your Credibility First

Don't ask for reviews day 1. Play a full season, go to camps, build a relationship. Coaches respect athletes who are serious.

Step 3: Make It Easy

Send a direct link to your RecruitMyGame profile. Tell them: "I'm recruiting for colleges. Would you be willing to leave feedback on my profile?"

Step 4: Provide Context

Don't expect coaches to write an essay. A simple review saying "works hard," "coachable," "athletically advanced" is gold.

Step 5: Express Gratitude

Thank them. Acknowledge their time. The best athletes maintain relationships with the coaches who vouch for them.

What Coaches Want to See in Reviews

✅ Specific & Honest

  • "Works hard in practice. Asks good questions."
  • "Athletically advanced for her position."
  • "Team player. Doesn't complain."
  • "Competitive. Hates losing."

❌ Vague or Over the Top

  • "Great kid!"
  • "One of the best athletes I've ever seen."
  • "Perfect leader."
  • "Incredible in every way."

What a Strong Review Looks Like

Coach Name
Club Program Name, City

"I've known Marcus for 2 years. He's an extremely coachable player who takes feedback seriously. Athletically, he's advanced for his position—great footwork and basketball IQ. What stands out most is his character: hard worker, doesn't complain, good teammate. D1 programs would be lucky to have him. Highly recommend."
